Working Toward a Larger Goal
At LJP Waste Solutions, we strive to keep all waste out of landfills as part of the zero
landfill initiative. Though we typically focus on larger manufacturers, we do provide residential
garbage services. Our goals with our residential services are the same as they are with commercial businesses.
Though we don’t offer the same in-depth analysis of the materials you dispose of with our residential
services, we do take care of them the same way we do with our commercial clients.
By recycling materials that can be reused and converting the rest to clean fuel, we help keep solid waste out of
landfills. The clean fuel we convert from your waste is called Refuse-Derived Fuel, which is used to power
multiple power plants, including two in Minnesota.
What is Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF)?
At LJP Waste Solutions, we convert certain materials we collect from our clients to Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF), while recycling the rest. By converting
certain materials to RDF, we are able to provide clean fuel to some of Xcel Energy’s power plants. After
your materials are brought to our facility in Mankato, they are sorted by category, such as metal or plastic,
before either being recycled or turned into fuel. Materials that are combustible are separated from the rest and
used for RDF. Noncombustible materials are then recycled.
We work hand-in-hand with Xcel Energy to help create a more sustainable world. Xcel has multiple power plants
throughout the country, including a handful in Minnesota. Two of Xcel’s power plants in Minnesota use RDF
as their primary sources of energy, while the remainder use solar and wind energy.
Additional Services
Though residential areas are not our primary focus, we do cater to a select few residential areas for traditional
garbage services. After our expert staff has collected the waste from up and down the streets, as well as from
small businesses, it’s treated the same way as large quantities of waste from our larger corporate
clients. To learn more about our residential pickups and the schedules for those areas, visit this page. We also rent some of our equipment, such as dumpsters.
