What Sets LJP Apart from Other Waste-to-Energy Companies?
In recent years, there has been a push for larger corporations to be more mindful about the waste they are producing and putting into landfills. Many are calling for higher sustainability goals and efforts to eradicate the solid waste put in landfills and convert that waste-to-energy to provide fuel for power plants.
Unlike most waste solution companies in Southern Minnesota, LJP has been focused on sustainability since we opened our doors in 1993. Our method is proven and ever-evolving, and we will help your company reach its sustainability goals.
What Does Our Recycling Process Look Like?
Converting waste-to-energy is easier than it may seem. When you choose LJP Waste Solutions as your environmental services company, you are choosing an all-encompassing organization that handles your waste collection from start to finish. Our team will come to your facility and begin our recycling process, which includes:
Step One
Consulting and evaluating your current system to create a new solution.
Step Two
Proposing, designing, and constructing a new system.
Step Three
Installing and implementing the new system.
Step Four
Servicing any issues you have with your new system.
Step Five
Providing reports specified for your company, so you see continuous improvement.
Before we transport your materials, we show you how to sort through your materials prior to baling similar substances together using the proper equipment. If you have baled like materials together, such as baling all the metals and plastics together, then we can easily begin our process at our facility. At our facility, we determine what materials are combustible, noncombustible, and biogenic. From there, we determine the materials that can be recycled and the materials that can be converted to fuel.
The Zero Landfill Initiative
Since opening for business in 1993, our primary focus has been the zero landfill initiative. The goal of this project is to keep all solid waste out of landfills in the future. At LJP, we are focused on improving the world around us, and by showing you and the rest of our clients how zero landfill and waste-to-energy facilities are the best option.
The overarching goal of zero landfills is zero waste. By focusing on waste-to-energy methods, we are contributing to the zero landfill initiative in a profound way. At LJP, we have a set system to determine the materials that can be recycled and what materials can be converted from waste-to-energy. Here is our process:
- Unload trucks with the bales and other materials into our facility
- Sort through the materials each of our clients sends to our facility
- Divide materials into categories, such as plastics, metal, paper, etc.
- Convert combustible materials into a clean fuel called Refuse-Derived Fuel
- Transport Refuse-Derived Fuel to specific Xcel power plants
- Sell recyclable materials to other companies to be remade into new objects
With our process, we are able to fuel power plants with clean energy, as well as recycle objects to be used again. In Mankato, we operate a landfill that houses materials that cannot be used as fuel or be recycled. Because of our dedication to sustainability, we carefully regulate this landfill to ensure it is environmentally safe.
Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF)
At LJP, we ship combustible materials we acquire from your company to Xcel Energy’s power plant to fuel clean energy. The materials we transport are converted into Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF). RDF is a clean fuel that eliminates the need for fossil fuels. In accordance with the many federal and state laws regulating what materials can be used to power various plants, we ensure that all materials we send to be converted into RDF are safe to be used as fuel. By using RDF, methane levels are reduced, fossil fuels are preserved, and more.
